Developing Equanimity, Insight and Compassion-- Meditation Instruction --Open Secret Bookstore, San Rafael, CAFour Tuesday EveningsOctober 9th & 23rd, November 6th & 20th 2007
Jigme Rinpoche will offer a series of teachings on contemplations and meditation techniques, based on an 18th century Tibetan text. Although the text is broadly described as being on samatha (calm abiding) meditation, its depth and range goes beyond this label, and will offer any level of practitioner valuable new tools for spiritual development. The teachings will comprise both spoken instruction and silent sitting, and participants will learn how the mind can be trained so as to facilitate our pursuit of happiness and benefit for ourselves and others. Regular practice of meditation based on such instruction can truly bring about powerful changes in how we handle our own daily life, work and relationship issues. Just as physical training strengthens and refreshes the body, meditation practice brings greater flexibility, focus, stamina and joy to the mind.
The sessions are open to everyone regardless of their level of knowledge or practice, and will be as relevant to seasoned practitioners as to those who are interested in establishing a practice without complex rituals.
The teachings progress systematically, building step by step on what has already been learned and practised, and so it is of most benefit if people are able to attend the entire course. However, each session is also self-contained in that previous material will be reviewed, and new material introduced, so it is also possible to attend on a drop-in basis. Please bring a notebook and a cushion. The teachings are free, although traditionally an offering is made to the lama at the end.
